“Official” Doom 3 Requirements

May 24, 2004 · Posted in Tech

It’s in quotes because I haven’t seen the box yet but Grendel Carmack told the press at E3 that the system requirements would be:

- A video card with at least 128MB RAM and Pixel Shader 1.1 support is required
- A 2.5GHz CPU should be enough for the stencil shadows and physics calculations

Also noteworthy:

- DOOM 3 will be released on 4 CDs
- Multiplayer will include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tournament and Last Man Standing
- Full Linux client support

That part about “should be enough for the stencil shadows and physics calculations” kinda scares me. Should be enough? Ugh. It’s like “Yeah, it’ll run it. But you might as well run your monitor in 256 color mode.” I don’t even KNOW if my card has Pixel Shader 1.1 or what it even is. I gotta do my homework…thanks for the heads up mandinga.

Its pretty bad that video cards are to the point where they cost more than your system does!!! Thats sad since you know how freaking cheap these things cost to make. Greedy bastards!!
