Kick-Ass Flash 3D export

May 30, 2004 · Posted in Games, Tech

I found this while I was doing some research on Dungeon Siege II (Gas Powered Games). Click here and check out this wicked flash clip of the Morden-Viir Cavalry beastie running. To export this they used 3D Studio Max? Maya? Don’t know, but it looks great!

Gotta be the Swift 3D export…I’m going to write to them and ask about it. It’s exceptionally fluid.

Rob…crazy ass chicken looking thingy? Stay off the Frosted Flakes, son.

    ..and here it is…

    Hey Grendel!

Glad you liked it! Our animators use Max and export a series of
“greenscreen” or “bluescreen” images that make up the animation. Kinda like
they do in the movies with the action taking place against a big green or
blue background. This one was approximately 24 frames in length IIRC. I
then take the images and remove the background and place them in a movie
clip inside the rest of the Flash clip. Voila! A realisticly rendered
animation against any background that we want to put it in. The animations
you are seeing on the website, by the way, are actual in game models with in
game textures. So what you see on the website will be exactly what you will
    see in game.

More are on the way – stay tuned!

Swift 3D makes a plug-in that allows you to export .swf files from either LightWave or 3DS Max.
