Ode To My Power Supply
Well, it had to happen at one point or other. My main box minasmorgul had a few hiccups and then cashed in her power supply this morning (musta heard me talking with my dad about the new WinXP box I’ve got comin round the bend). I put in an older power supply as a backup but unfortunately it doesn’t have that little boxy P4 thingy that apparently all P4′s really need to get all warm and fuzzy with. So, here I sit, finally (FINALLY!) at peace with my good purchase decision (gasp!) of a refurbished bulletproof IBM Thinkpad T22. I have it set up to dual boot, got wireless 802.11g running, the latest J2SE SDK, Flash, Apache2, even have a DVD ready to roll if I want to. So I can honestly say that I’m happy that I got this little beastie ,and in honor of her coming through for me I’m going to have to order another 256MB stick of RAM from my buds over at Micron.
And in the mean time, no video games? Ach…but wait, I have that C. Jung book of essays I’m reading, and the rain sure does sound good to me, and I have those kick ass cigars I just got in, a shark steak thawing out in the fridge ready for my George Foreman, and a case of my favorite selzer water and some lemons…maybe the gods are telling me to put the mouse down for a while and suck in a little fresh air. I have to say, I agree. I am KING of my domain! I got it good! Too much of this computer shit makes it not fun. And what’s the point of doing anything that isn’t a good time? Life is too short, sez I. Peace, boys! May your computer break down occasionally, and in so doing reveal a little sanity!
Web Developer 0.8 for Firefox
Cool, cool cool! You NEED to have this extension. Check out the Firefox Web Developer 0.8 extension and feel the crunchity goodness. (And if you’re not running Firefox for any reason I’m not going to talk to you again, ever. That’s just wrong.)
MIA Peron
Well last year it was Stupe who pulled an MIA. Now its Votts turn I guess. Kid seems like he is never online anymore and when/if he is, I blink once and he is offline already. WTF is that all about?
Luckily I ran into his parents that tell me he is in OBX and they assumed that I knew this. Seems like since Vott got married he has turned into a Secret Agent. Or even better as mentioned last year (Stupe), similar acts that Bobby Fisher used to do.
So Vott if you are out there and checking in, shoot us a signal you freaking lacks mother scratcher baisting in the NC sun. You Suck!! Thanks for inviting us again this year LOL. Maybe this year it will not be 103 degrees outside.
And with Stupe trying to compete in the Jesus look a like contest this was probably a wise choice since he would have funny tan marks on his back from where his hair is laying.
This is just silly.
Acer Ferrari 3200
At FlashForward2004 I saw one of the presenter/developers using a rather cool lookin notebook painted in Ferrari colors. I thought he just had some kinda case mod and I was thinking “ok, whatever dude. You’re a Flash God, all hail, etc”. I didn’t think it was really some kind of a powerhouse though…
Man, was I wrong. AMD64 Mobile, 802.11g, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, DVD burner, up to 2 Gigs of DDR333…
Gentlemen, I give you the Acer Ferrari 3200:
2 words. Holy shit.
PHP 5.0
When you’re bored of building HTML tables…
“Each computational organism is constructed from a set of individual, hand drawn elements. Unique graphic elements are attached, hinged, scaled, and skewed to anatomical specification. Locomotion and behaviors are also uniquely modified. The resulting walking machines are diverse in both appearance and behavior.”
What fun!
Crotch Rocket runs FreeBSD
WTF. I stumbled across this link that shows how this person has installed a computer onto his motorcycle that is running FreeBSD. So far the only thing I see its used for is capturing video from his helmet cam. Wouldn’t you think a small video recorder what have worked?

Macromedia Central
http://www.macromedia.com/software/central/
Pretty cool. It’s worth a look and an install, if not for long term than just to check out what Macromedia is up to. I dig the concept but I think I’d rather build my own. Whatever. The key to all this is SHARED USER EXPERIENCE. That’s the hot ticket in town, boys…
