Fall is for Gamin, baby…
I got settled into the Fall gaming season today after finally figuring out how to share my 5.1 surround speakers between computers. I got a new XP box a few weeks ago specifically to run the new games, and although I’m still waiting for a replacement mem module (PC3500 DCMM) to make the hyperthreading work properly, I was able to get a fiber optic audio cable that I can use to share my 5.1 speakers with both of my Windows machines. Dude, I gotta say – all digital is mighty sweet. The box is grounded with an Abit IS-10 running a nVidia GeForceFX5700/256MB, 120MB SATA, 3.0 P4, and a gig of PC3500 Dual Channel.
So I do like they tell me, I turn the lights out and lock the door and turn the sound up. With my trusty new Nostromo SpeedPad n52 (muahahahaha), I’m having a lot of fun playing Doom III. I pulled the demo down on Friday and got instantly hooked. I also got my ass instantly kicked after entering this room. I shoulda known that when entering a room with heaving masses of pulsating entrails for, uh, walls…probably gonna be some bad mojo comin on. I’m diggin it.

Sounds like you got a nice gaming machine now… Mine just needs an updated video card, which isn’t happening anytime soon. So my Doom days are on standby until I can get the upgrades accomplished.
That Nostromo looks pretty cool. Is that for a left and right hand or is it specific?
5.1 Surround… um I think I am way behind the times there… Well since my subwoofer was floating in my basement think my sound is currently at 2.0.
I am jealous Stupe!!
Damn, I have a pretty kick ass machine but am still using some old Dell speakers (yeah, they’re beige) for sound. It’s a little better with the headphones but not by much. Anyway, I’ve been toying around with the idea of getting back into the game but there’s just still a lot to do around the apartment, getting a job, golfing, etc.
I may just wait until the first snowfall.
That maybe next month already with the summer we have had!!!
Dude, the surround sound makes the game. I was even more convinced when the boys over at anandtech made the same decision:

If I remember right Paul you have an Audigy card with 5.1 right?
(Rob, you already got the tank thing buddy…)
Still waiting for my keys for the tank to arrive!!
