Just getting a little sick and tired of people calling me with computer problems relating to the speed of their computers.
99% of them are STILL using IE as their browser of choice. I can tell them till I am blue in the face on to NEVER use IE again and switch to Firefox.
A couple months will pass and I will get another call complaining that they cannot due anything on their machine again. So I run a spy/ad ware program and see ALL THIS SHIT back on the machine. This frustrates me to NO END seeing is there is a simple fix to the problem. Try Firefox for 1 day and you will get used to it, especially tabbed browsing… There is no reason to spawn 99 IE windows anymore, unless you are just an IDIOT.

Rob, I totally know what you are going through. I also support a few machines that have the same issues. I tell them the same things. The difference is that I charge them every single time. So it really doesn’t bother me to go over, fix the issue, then get paid. Eventually they will take my advise or just continue to pay me.
Maybe the 64 bit version will be better…
Personally I really don’t like ANY of the browsers. They are still not all compliant to the supposed W3C DOM recommendation (hi there, $teve “Think Different” Job$) and generally still a major headache to code for due to the huge differences in support on different platforms, etc. IE has some advantages - ActiveX is a pretty cool technology - but yeah, unless your user sets the browser up correctly, forget it.
If you buy a machine, learn how to use it properly or pay the price. I mean, really..it’s the TWENTY FIRST CENTURY. Didn’t any of these people ever read science fiction? GET WITH THE PROGRAM (or be assimilated into the vast worker herd that will live below ground, in numbered honeycombed pens regulated to keep them alive, barely…just barely…and their only reason for existance that to serve the technologically advanced sun-dwellers in their halls of crystal with their “robots” and “rocket ships” and “fire”).

First I’d like to recommend what I tell people when they ask me to “fix” their computer.
Here’s the scenerio:
Technophobe: Hey man, can you fix my computer?
Me: Well, I’m able to fix _my_ computer but that doesn’t necessarily mean I can fix _your_ computer.
That’s basically it in a nutshell.
As far as browsers are concerned, I don’t like IE and I don’t care for Firefox. Safari’s ok but that Apple stuff makes me crazy sometimes. I feel like I’m in a candy land of bubble magic when what I really want to do is get some work done. Too distracting, which is why I like Fluxbox. But I digress…
