I think this is freakin amazing. Of course from one of my fav sites. Compfused.
This would be very neat to have as like a Total Home Computer built into the house kinda thing.

    Nice find bro.

Because I cannot edit my own comments right now I’m going to add this infor in on a second comment.

Sony Labs are the ones that developed this. Another name is Sony CLS. The Data Tiles are pretty neat but I found that it only stores data so far. I would love to see it develop more into say a laptop sort of tablet.

However, I managed to find the sitewith more information on the DataTiles. Including the MPEG of the same video rip posted.

Another group is also in the works on something of the same technology, called Audiopad.

    Ok, I have a few questions…

Is the grid the computer? Are the tiles programs and subroutines? Is that pen thingy the pointing device for everything? Most importantly, how to the tiles communicate with the computer?

It _is_ cool. So much so that I’m freaking confused as hell.

  4. theDarkStranger says:

Well just from looking at it I would think that the Grid is the housing of the OS. Each tile is an application and storage device. The pen is like a mouse. It is from a Wacom Tablet. That is the main device as a cursor. In the Video it shows that they have developed a wheel for the Time Tile.

As far as how they communicate with the Grid is that toughest part to understand. Is it pressure plates? or something like the technology they developed for recharging batteries by just placing the device on a pad to recharge them? Very interesting.

    Thats just my thoughts.

This is nutty stuff. It kinda looks like it was mocked up, though…I mean, where is this coming from? A reliable source? Is this stuff functional or is this just demonstrative?

  6. theDarkStranger says:

Grendel the link I sent above is the source. In fact the creator isJun Rekimoto who works for Sony CSL (Computer Science Labs). It looks like it is legit but on how it works is another story. That has yet to be revealed.

  7. Paul says:

It probably has something to do with black magic.

May God have mercy on them.

Looking at the Sony CSL site is…well…humbling.
