Most of you know that my son likes playing Ratchet and Clank on my PS2.
To most, they think this to be a bad thing, which I some what agree. But his hand and eye coordination are getting surprisingly good and fast. I am almost afraid to play him head to head.
Anyways, I found this article online today and figured I would share it.

Good post. Makes me think about the industry and what is to become of it, how it’s growing like a weed (and how it’s attracting all the pond scum that likes to stick to weeds), how the entertainment industry is being driven more and more by the video game industry

It’s not really Donkey Kong any more, is it? Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go kick some ass in my Ferrari F-150 on Xbox Live.

Kudos on the post brutha. I agree with both yours and Jv’s perspectives on this. Just think…there will also be kids who devote their entire existence trying to get on the pro tour. And then during an intense practice session…they will dislocate there thumb, or developed some compounded form of carpel tunnel, medically dubbed: carpel gammel. And all there hopes and dreams will fade and dissolve as fast as a system hit with a brownout and no battery backup to save them. They will sell you and your family a new living room set. A plaque above their desk “Gamer Of The Year 2012″. And you will ask them what game took them pro….and they’ll wince, and indulge you in fond memories of gaming past. And finish the sale by bragging about their recent high score on Lumines for PSP.

a harsh reality, or a glimpse of the future?

I have been a gamer ever since I could hold the controller to my Atari 2600. My dad purchasesd it for my brother and I as kids. I think I was like 2 or 3. We then owned just about every gaming console made after that. Execpt that POS unit Panisonic tried to push the 3DO. I do believe that gaming builds reaction times, hand-eye coordination, along with troublshooting thinking. Believe me I spent most of my time playing the games alone because I would always kick the living crap out of all my friends. I’m not trying to brag or anything. Well maybe I am. LOL. But really, I think gaming for kids is fine as long as the type of game goes with the age of the player. I mean a 6 year old doesn’t need to be playing GTA.

Phil, whats your definition of alright?

  7. dannyboy says:

Yeah theDarkStranger…my Dad contributed to our gaming delinquency as well:) I remember every new gaming system we got. I also remember waking up in the middle of the night to find out that some assembly required seemed to apply to video game systems as well. I caught my Dad ‘test driving’ the familys new console before the big Christmas gift opening. Evidently he must have known he didn’t have a chance at playing once he threw the console to the wolves;)

Oh and Phillystyle? 249.99. Thats how many duckets I need to by a PSP of my own. Then I can post scores like, um…88,974?

    cheers beeyotches!

I remember spending weeks on Ultima III with my buddy Chris on the ol Atari 800. First night I got it I stayed up all night playing Star Raiders..and I wasn’t even obsessed with coffee yet. I think college definitely saw a resurgence of gaming mania (I blame my roomate) and obviously it’s remained, despite my best efforts. I am ready for the PS3. In the mean time – this year has got to be about getting a decent home theater system rigged up. This “everything into my computer” jazz ain’t cutting it any more. I gotta get a projector system.

    “I blame my roomate”

    Ahem.

Let me remind you that _you_ were the one playing endless hours of Prince of Persia back at Brough House… bro.

I’ll take _some_ credit, but not _all_. :P
