Screaming Tunnel
This past weekend Evil Diva and I attended the Niagara Ice Wine Festival, when during my GPS planning route I noticed a point of interest on Google Maps labeled “Screaming Tunnel”. Of course this catches my interest so I did some searching and legend has it this tunnel is haunted due to a young girl that died inside trying to extinguish herself from flames.
Needless to say since this location was literally a 5 minute drive from one of the wineries, so we couldn’t resist!
As we pulled along side the tunnel, I noticed all the graffiti, which in itself really bothers me why people find the urge to destroy something that doesn’t belong to them.
Anyways, Evil Diva got a little jittery and did not want to venture into the tunnel with only 2 of us there. Seems like 3 is that magic/safe number! Without hesitation I grabbed my camera and matches* and proceeded to walk into the tunnel. The ground was mostly frozen, but not thick enough to support my weight to make it all the way through without having the proper boots on.
Granted the match thing should be done after dark, but since I was there I had to try it. 1st match lite, blew out almost immediately…err… and let it be noted the winds where calm that day but it was a brisk 10 degrees outside. My 2nd/3rd matches burned properly, so grabbing for my camera I realized I never replaced the memory card and was forced to use my BlackJack to take some photos which is what you see above. Next time, yes next time, we will go back after dark with our real cameras and proper boots to see if anything happens. Funny thing as I walked back to the car, Evil Diva had locked me out… so what if something where to happen…? I would be jumping on the roof of the car.
* Legend says if you lite a wooden match, that it will blow out and you will her the screams of the little girl

You’re damn right the doors were locked, if someone or something came after you, I was flooring it up the snowy hill to safety!!
The whole thing creeped me out a little…the thought that a little girl died in there, and here we are tormenting her spirit with flames (which are what killed her) just bothers me. I would feel much more comfortable in a larger group. I do want to go back, but safety in numbers is my theory.
I rated your picture only 4 stars, because I thought there were others with the icicles that I think were even better.
