Well I finally decided to buy a new laptop.
HPDV6324US
This is an HP6324US model:

  • AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 1.6GHz
  • 1GB DDR2 Memory
  • 120GB Hard Drive
  • 15.4 Widescreen Display
  • Vista Home Premium
  • 802.11b/g Wireless

So why would I get a laptop?

My personal computer at home is very messed up even after a fresh install of XP.
My desk/chair combo is not comfortable
I have a couple of decent jobs to do and now having the ability to work during lunch in the local wifi’s all over the place here made this purchase justified. Surprisingly I am getting a lot of work done from these hot spots too, while enjoying lunch or just some coffee.
Lappy was only $700 after $150 in mail in rebates, so if I get 3 years out of it, its more than paid for itself IMO.
Vista as much negative press you read about it, its fair superior than XP but again thats just my opinion. The wireless network detection JUST WORKS. The Mac commercials are funny and true but than again Apple has to attack the competition or they wouldn’t be in business without their superb marketing. Funny website about Mac Users here.
I am also trying to utilize all my online storage via StrongSpace with my laptop so I do not need to worry about backups. I just have the laptop sync with StrongSpace once a week and I should be golden.
If your looking for a new lappy, don’t let the HP name fool you.

Nice lappy, dude…very clean, good styling, and you can’t beat that screen size – it’s perfect.

I’d chuck Vista to the curb though – I just reinstalled XP after dealing with too many driver problems on my HTPC at home. I’m thoroughly unimpressed with the stability of the release and the UAC thing just drives me nuts. Yeah you can disable it but then you get the UAC Has Been Disabled warning every 5 minutes. MS should have spent more time debugging the damn build, IMHO…I don’t think it’s quite there yet, and will wait till SP1 comes out.

    Anyway, NICE BOX DUDE.

  2. I’m super glad to hear both the post AND the initial comment. I feel that I am getting behind with my pc. Although brother Paul is slowly turning me on to safer software to use. I want to get a laptop but hear so many mixed reviews of hardware and software…..its hard to figure out what works. Nayway, for the money, that sure is a pretty lappy-top:) How well can you run media stuff. I would love to get a laptop for djing!

The way I see it, if you buy a new machine with Vista there shouldn’t be any issues. I have not had any as of yet. If you want to upgrade your existing system to vista…. there will be problems.
As far as media, I am only using the dvd player and media player, but with the speed and memory I can’t see to many problems running your dj stuff… Hell I did that on my old machine without a problem.
