This past weekend we attended the GeoBash II in Allegany State Park, which is a Geocaching event to gather all the local geocachers together. They have all kinds of different events going on during the coarse of the day but its mostly for caching and meeting people that enjoy the same hobby.
Evil Diva was determined to grab the ASP High Point cache which was being removed/archived on Sunday. As the name describes, this is at the HIGHEST point in the entire State Park which is at 2384 feet. The trek up the hill is 1.5 miles which seemed like a lot more considereing we had to bushwhack our way to the top seeing the original hunters path is poorly marked and we did not have the TOPO maps on our GPS to follow the ridge.

We had two young ones with us that made it .75 miles up which took 1-1/2 hours and their little legs couldn’t take any more, so Evil Diva’s cousin offered to take them back to the car which allowed us to walk at a better rate for the remaining .5 miles. Once we finally made it to the top, unfortunately there was nothing to see this time of year due to the tree coverage but in the fall it would be a great view but we only took a quick break and made our way back down the hill at a very fast pace. We made it back in 30 minutes which was pretty good considering the kids just got to the bottom of the hill 15 minutes before us.

In case you missed this year’s Tour (and victory by Floyd Landis, American cyclist), OLN TV is showing a tour recap on Sunday July 30th at 7pm ET. Landis was extremely impressive; after securing the yellow jersey, he bonked out on the second mountain stage in the Alps and lost 8 minutes. That should have sunk him and he was effectively dismissed as a likely winner…

The very next day he hit the throttle on the final – and most difficult – Alps stage, smashed the competition, rode out in front of everyone immediately, gained a huge lead on some huge mountains, and rode to the finish alone. It’s worth a look to see a fellow American beating the odds and coming back in the face of total adversity. It’s an amazing feat, highly recommend you check it out. I was glued to the Tour over the last 3 weeks every night and it’s a really, really cool race to watch. I was very inspired.

Well I have been wanting to post about this for a month or so, but with my current work situation, my time was limited. Anyways about a month ago I started geocaching with Evildiva. She found out about it when her cousin brought a GPS out for a family holiday gathering and went with her on a couple hunts. Jake had also been telling me about this, but really didn’t think much about it.
What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is basically a treasure hunt. You goto geocaching.com and enter in your zip code and see all the hidden treasures awaiting your visit. You pull down the coords and start tracking them down with your GPS. The idea is, you take something and leave something of equal value, or you can just sign the log book (stating you where there) and then log your visit on the website.

Story continued…
Once she told me she was going to buy a GPS, I put her purchase on hold since as you all know I must do the research on any electronics and tend to stay away from the cheaper models. With that said I ended up spliting the cost with her on a Garmin Vista CX. All seemed well but when we started to go out on caches, we where not having the best of luck, so I exchanged it for a Magellan Explorist which made finding the caches a little more accurate…. but it lacked the features of the Garmin… so I exchanged it again for the same Gamin Vista CX just another unit, hoping it was just a bad egg… again same issue was consistantly off. So that was it, I took it back and got our money back and hit Amazon to end up buying the Garmin 60CSx, which is the daddy mack for handhelds. This one the original one I wanted to buy but the cost was a little out of range. Waiting the 3 weeks with the other exchanges brought the price down $100 so now it was within scope and I most say, this thing kicks ass!!

So if you decide you want to get involved, let me know I can give advise on things to do, what type of poisonous plants to look for and to always check for ticks. As of today we have found 87 caches and are still just as excited to find more since some of these multiple step caches really make you put your mind to work with technology. I have used Google quite a bit from my cellphone to get help on these hunts. We plan to place our own set of caches soon, once we devise a scheme/theme.

If you are caching and see the Evilones logo, you will know I have been there

Well we had our 4man Beach Volleyball Championship last night which started us right into semi-finals.
The 1st team we played only showed up with 3 players so we were able to take them down rather easily which put us right into the finals. This team we has won it the past 2 years in a row now and we where out to steal that away from them. 1st game we dominated winning 25-17. The 2nd game we started off strong then fell behind losing 25-23. So needless to say the 3rd game was back and forth. We were down 3 points then was able to make them up around the 18-18 stage of the game. Still pushing we got to about 21-20 when the one guy we played against was not happy with a call and got himself all worked up. Thats all I needed to see. So I started serving to him each time which stagedy wise is usually the best scenario here since if his head is not in the game neither are his skills. So all in all that pushed us to the 25 -21 victory celebration!! Finally it took 3 year but Team NEVIL was successful.
We got to keep the game balls (4 Total) and we get 4 embriodered shirts too.
