HP Still SUCKS

September 11, 2009 · Posted in Tech · Comment

I have had this HP Pavilion dv6000 for approximately 3 years and I have already complained how shitty HP support was before.
Anyways, the other day by just closing the lid (which puts the computer in hibernation) and for some reason or another this broke the hard drive. When it reboots you get the infamous BSOD and it tries to go into repair mode only to say that there is a hardware failure.
Well, after some diagnostics it appears the boot sector of the hard drive is bad, so I need to get a new one which is approximately $50. Not a big deal. HOWEVER HP no longer ships rescue cds with their laptops (at least mine) but they DO SELL THEM.

FUCK YOU!!!

I refuse to pay for something that should be included in every computer that is sold.
Now I plan on getting a new hard drive and installing LINUX on it sometime this weekend.
So here’s a big .|.. to HP and MS for your shitty products and support.

HP Support Sucks

January 12, 2009 · Posted in Tech · Comment

So about a couple weeks ago I was using my wireless connection on my HP laptop when all of a sudden the wireless connection dropped and I could not get it back. So I started researching and noticed their was a manufacturers defect on my model for the wireless adapter. I called HP and they promptly sent me a return box and I sent it in. With that said they give you some paperwork to fill out to note what the problem is, so I described this was in for a recall and simply complained that the battery life sucked on it but did not want it replaced, I was simply stating a fact that their default batteries are garbage.
After they received the laptop they send you an email so you can track the status of the repair… as of this morning I noticed that it was awaiting proof of purchase in order to process the order and that there was a $321.84 charge.
I immediately called the support number and questioned the price, they said that the battery was not good and that they replaced it so thats what the charge was for.. I stated, I did not want the battery replaced I simply stated the battery life sucked and that they should ship these things with a better quality battery.
The idiot on the phone spoke broken ENGLISH and actually started getting pissed with me saying that this repair was not covered under this recall and that was what the charge was for. Again, I didn’t need a new battery as I can buy a new 12 cell battery for well under $100. So after this idiot finally realized he was wrong and that I did not want the battery replaced, he said we will just fix the recall and send it back to me.
Regardless this support person was a complete asshole and I probably will never buy another HP product again due to my customer service experience and the fact that they should employ people who can speak fluent ENGLISH.

iPhone 3G Power Adapter Recall – What’s Next?

September 23, 2008 · Posted in Tech · 1 Comment

Things just keep getting worse for Apple.
Not only was I one of the stupid ones that waited in line for this phone that has honestly had nothing but issues. From the numerous firmware updates (3 of them to date) of which NONE have made any improvements on my battery life.

Now they have a recall on the Power Adapter that shipped with the iPhone 3G as apparently the metal prongs can break off and get stuck in the electrical outlet creating a risk for electric shock. Gee don’t you think that would have been thoroughly tested by the company that made them?

In my opinion Apple is so greedy that its willing to ship a product that ‘they know has issues’ just to get their revenue pumping and then deal with the issues as the customers complain.

They should spend less money on advertising and more money on their QA department.

Now I have to wait 3 weeks for a replacement adapter and am urged to use a USB cable to charge my phone, so this is another inconvenience for me… Way to go Apple.. A 1st time customer with nothing but bad things to say about your product!! Woo Hoo!!

iPhone 3G – 2.1 update

September 16, 2008 · Posted in Tech · Comment

As highly anticipated this release was, some of the main fixes focused on:

  1. Significantly better battery life for most users
  2. Decrease in call setup failures and dropped calls
  3. Reduced time to backup to iTunes
  4. Improved performance in text messaging
  5. Faster loading and searching of contacts
  6. Genius playlist creation

My opinion and actual results for so:

  1. Its even worse, with 3G enabled my battery is 3/4 of the way drained with no phone calls in less than 6 hours since being unplugged from the charger
  2. Lost 4 calls alone yesterday with full signal strength in the 3G area
  3. Yea thats better
  4. This is the biggest improvement so far for me
  5. Still a little laggy for me, could be better
  6. Genius… Pandora is still better and should have worked after the 2.1 update instead of having to sync the phone again

I am honestly NOT impressed with Apple and their progress on these updates. My battery life absolutely sucks ass and is far from acceptable… Why should I have to turn off 3G, Push etc just to make it through the day. Just fix the damn problem!!

They keep delaying things people want and where basically promised in the 2.1 release. Maybe we’ll have to wait for 3.0 for us to get everything we want…. but then they will probably make us pay for the update!!

My good ole Samsung Blackjack maybe coming out of retirement if this shit keeps up!!

iPhone 3G

Well, they made enough enhancements for me to finally want to buy an iPhone. So this morning I woke up at 5am and just knew I should head out to the store early just in case. I arrived at the AT&T store around 5:45am and was happy to see I was the 12th person in line. Luckily there was a Panera Bread opened right next store which allowed me to get some coffee and a bagel.
The people waiting in line where using Panera Breads outdoor tables that where equipped with umbrellas which worked out well during the on/off rain during my 2 hour wait.
At 7:55am everyone started to line up towards the door and nicely enough they would only allow 6 people in at a time as there where 6 clerks working the counters. By the time I got to go in ALL the 16GB models where sold out already and there where some pretty irate customers complaining, but each store only received so many of each model. Regardless I was only buying the 8GB model so I didn’t honestly care. The process was simple being a current AT&T customer, so with that said I was out of the store by 8:30am with the phone fully working.
As soon as I got to work I configured my Exchange credentials and all my emails/contacts where synced up in seconds. See things can be simple.
I haven’t been able to test it out fully as I am working a full day.. I may post a review in a couple weeks, but as for right now, this thing is fantastic.

Wassup everyone!

I stumbled on this a while back and managed to get onboard the beta testers team. I have used it a while now and just today looks likes xobni.com has released it as a public beta. I must say that if you have to use Outlook then install xobni to get the full benefit of Outlook.

BTW – Xobni is just Inbox spelled backwards. ;)

One bad ass coffee mug.

October 27, 2007 · Posted in General, Tech · 2 Comments

A month ago I was on a quest for a bad ass coffee mug. Mainly, something I could carry on my mt. bike. I found this little gem from REI. This is worth every penny in my book. Just dump in the goods, add hot water, let steep, drink, repeat. I hunted around and found a few others (shitty but resourceful website) but this was most appealing. Other insulated bottles with nipples tend to keep drinks too hot. And theres nothing worse than scalding your mouth first thing in the morning. I find with this REI mug, I can unscrew the top thermos-style cap toss it in my pocket/bag and I don’t lose any coffee due to spillage thanks to the internal screen, 8 spoke drinkable lid, as well as any grounds that are floatin’ up top;) Fits well in my adjustable cage too! Best of all, if it works on my bike, it’ll work anywhere. Easy to clean. Highly recommended. If you decide to order one hunt for a discount code online first. I save 4-5$ on both the bottle and the cage…basically covers shipping. Enjoi!

Just got a new toy!
